Who I be?
If you have been around Huntington, I may look familiar.  I went to Huntington East High School and graduated in '88 then continued to get my school on at Marshall where I earned a B.A. in Speech-Broadcasting with a Minor in Sociology.  While at MU, I worked on WMUL 88.1 FM doing the Metal show "Stonehenge".  I also did a Blues show, and numerous Alternative shifts including my feature, weekly countdown show, "The Alternative Path".

You may have seen me sling some drinks or spinning tunes at Gumby's, bartending, managing, and booking bands at Drop Shop, serving you up at Gravity or Gyrationz, selling you CD's and smoking cigarettes at Davidson's Records, or possibly, you may know me by from my time spent waiting tables, bartending, or bussing tables at the old Fiesta Bravo at the Mall or Calamity Cafe (man I really miss some Pinwheels and Cadillac Ranch).

I started working part time at the X in '97, when I was just doing the local show "Loud & Local".  It really wasn't paying the bills and other parts of my life needed my full focus, so I quit.  I returned with L&L and a night shift, 7P-1A, in '98. After a few years, I went full time and left the B&R world behind and now I'm Program Director here at the X!  I'm the boss now?  W.T.F!?!?

I enjoy:  My Daugter, Hockey, Football, Baseball, NHL Network, The History Channel, Sportscenter, Miller Lite, Steak, Women, Science Fiction, Jagermeister, Mexican Food, the beach, Las Vegas, New York City, Texas Hold Em, having fun, darts, strippers, MSNBC for politics, Bill Maher, The Sopranos, George Carlin, Summertime, and much much more...

I don't enjoy:  Copycats, Reality TV, Drama, people who are high maintenance, the high price of gas, basketball, George Bush, Huntington City Streets (potholes), the Red Sox, the Patriots and the Red Wings. Word!

I like all kinds of music, here are some of my favorites:  Sabbath, Fu Manchu, Ministry, QOTSA, Tool, Monster Magnet, Foo Fighters and about 900 others!

For those of you that were not at Club Echo on June 24th...make sure you catch Pop Evil live the next time they come to town...

New Album: Lipstick on the Mirror out August 12
New Cover Art:

POP EVIL

2008 is shaping up to be a very successful year for Pop Evil which has steadily built a grassroots following since forming in November of 2001.  Leigh Kakaty (lead vocals), Dave Grahs (Guitar), and Dylan Allison formed the early stages of the band in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They recently signed to upstart record Label Pazzo Music run by 25 year music veterans George Cappellini and Charlie Brusco.

After continually playing shows throughout the Midwest Pop Evil decided to go into the studio with Al Sutton (Kid Rock) to record.  In 2005 the band released their first EP entitled “Ready or Not.”  Already having sold over 12,000 copies throughout the Mid West the band is ready to release their upcoming debut album. Leigh claims that “It is amazing to see the level of support that we now receive in areas other than our home town (Grand Rapids). Everywhere we go fans know the words to our songs. It feels really good to see people relating to and embracing the music that we have created.”

In 2007, the band recruited Muskegon natives Tony Greve (Guitar) and Matt DiRito to help compliment the band’s sound and stage show.  Soon after, the band teamed up with Al Sutton, and Marlon Young (Kid Rock), to help lay the foundation for their new album “Lipstick on the Mirror.” In May of 2008, the band finished recording “Lipstick on the Mirror” at Pearl Sound with producer Chuck Alkazian. The album hits stores August 12th, 2008.

While the word is getting out due to a tireless touring schedule that sees the band playing well over 100 shows a year, the members know they owe it all to the local people that supported the music from the beginning.  In the fall of 2006 their song “Somebody Like You” hit the radio waves and currently has over 1200 total media base spins on the most popular rock station in the area, 97.9 WGRD, and is currently the #1 most requested song in the city of Grand Rapids.  Dave Grahs recently indicated, “From the beginning it meant a lot to see our friends embrace what we were doing, but it didn’t really set in just how much our local market stood behind us until I was driving down the road and heard our single (Somebody Like You).

Due to that demand more Pop Evil music is poised to soon start playing on rock radio stations around the country.  Their music video for the track ‘Somebody Like You’ was shot by Jason Honeycutt and features Rossi Morreale and Britt Koth of MTV’s show 8th and Ocean.  Soon after it was picked up by MTV Latin America, the video was a mainstay in the top 10.   MTV has been increasing its support of the band, recently featuring the music on the hit show MADE.  More support is sure to come in the near future.

Pop Evil’s self titled studio album produced by Al Sutton who has worked with Kid Rock for 10 years hits stores later this year. The first single “Hero” is currently charted at the Rock format. With so much momentum, the band is excited about touring throughout Michigan and is looking to book dates throughout the United States.

The Return of Slipknot!

ANNOUNCES ALL HOPE IS GONE AS THE TITLE OF THEIR FOURTH ALBUM

New York, NY - Slipknot, the Grammy Award winning hard rock machine from Des Moines, IA is back. The band will release its fourth album, All Hope is Gone, on Roadrunner Records on August 26, 2008. The album was recorded this spring in Slipknot’s home state and is co-produced by the band and Dave Fortman.

“The nine” will spend their summer laying waste to arenas in North America as they headline the first annual Rock Star Energy Mayhem Festival. As Slipknot’s first tour in three years, these dates are sure to bring the band’s legion of diehard fans, affectionately dubbed "maggots," out in full force.

All Hope is Gone is more of a statement than a record. Corey Taylor comments, "Every album we have made is a statement about that space in time. I think this era is the most mature, most beautiful and the most powerful. We have made an album that will show the road behind, the road ahead, and where we are as men. I think it's the best thing I've ever made. And I challenge anyone to prove me wrong."

The album promises to blend elements of 2004’s Vol 3: (The Subliminal Verses) and 2001’s Iowa, while adding a perspective, freshness and depth that only three years apart can bring. The first single “Psychosocial” will be delivered to radio on June 30 and will be available digitally on July 1. A complete track listing will be announced shortly.

Slipknot is the ever-evolving definitive voice in hard rock music. They are pioneers of an alternative metal scene, where scarring riffs and thunderous percussion are punctuated by vocals, which seamlessly shift from brutal to melodic within a breath. The band's previous studio albums, Slipknot, Iowa, Vol.3:(The Subliminal Verses) have all been certified platinum or better, as have their DVDs, Welcome to Our Neighborhood, Disasterpieces and Voliminal: Inside the Nine. The double live 9.0: Live holds a gold certification

My Demolition Derby Cherry has been busted!
Thursday 06-19-2008 10:33pm ET

Pictures are now up from the Rockin Asphalt Assault Here

So, my first Demolition Derby came to fruition this past Saturday with the Rockin Asphault Assault at the Ona Speedway...quite the experience!  Woolum and I got to track around 1 that day and I broadcasted from there til 3:30, so I didn't have much time to contemplate what I was about to embark on...that was a good thing.  The event started late, around 5...
Adam from Evil Kazeevil Promotions talked to me about what to do, but really you can only have so much of an idea of what you're about to get into and it's the kind of situation that you just have to experience for yourself...if you dare!

Once I was in the helmet, in the car, and out on the track...I was having a hard time keeping my car on...not sure if that was my fault or not, but when all 8 cars were lined up nose to nose, they then had me turn the car off for the National Anthem and a prayer...believe me, I didn't want to do this at all!  I was so nervous I wouldn't get it started again, and guess what happened!  So all of the other guys start their cars right up and I'm there like a sitting duck!  They all back up, and finally when I get my car started WHAM! I got hit in the back and it slung my neck backwards while the part of my helmet that goes over your mouth was now over my eyes!

After that part, most of it was a big blur of nerves, noise, smoke, heat and pain...my car died at another point and I was trying to get it started again and the BLAM! I was hit on the passenger side and it knocked me into the squared steel rollbar that went down the drivers door...that didn't feel real f**king good! (If you don't know, these cars don't start like the one out front your house right now.  You have to pump the gas while touching to wires to the battery that is sitting in the passenger floor beside you and beside the gas tank!  Not to mention I couldn't see what gear I was in because the indicator, normally on the dash, was gone and I have 7 cars trying to take me out!  I never been in a warzone but that's kind of how I  would imagine it...anyway, finally got the car running again and was lined up to use my trunk as the weapon of destruction...I was afraid to look over my shoulder, but I did and saw 2 cars hooked together about 30 feet behind me.  IT'S ON NOW!  I hit the gas and slammed into the rear of one of the cars!  Then I went on to do it again...I have found out, that in Demolition Derbys, it is much better to be the hitter than the hittee! Problem was that the second time I hit that car my trunk and went up on his and my back tires weren't touching the pavement anymore, so basically, I was done.

I could go on with more details, but that is the just of the thing...it took around 5 minutes in real time but it was a much longer time for me in that car and for my friends watching the stands and in the pits!   When I got out that car, I was shaking like a leaf and sweating like a crackhead!

But, I did it and lived to tell the stories...Defintely one of, or the craziest thing I've ever done!

Sunday woke up, and felt like someone had just beat the crap out of me!
My neck was super sore for about 3 days from my chin to my collar bone.
My ribs are very bruised, Sunday and Monday my left knee was hurting bad and I was having a hard time with steps, and I have a bruise on the side of my ass that looks like I got hit with a softball bat!

I basically was in about 10 cars wrecks in 5 minutes!  And you know what, it was all on purpose!

Pictures didn't turn out really good, I wish we would have had it on video but I should have the pictures up on this site soon.  It was really fast to take pictures and there was a lot of smoke...

Thanks to Adam Kazee and Evil Kazeevil Promotions for everything and for providing me with the chance to do this in the first place.
I could never have gotten the money for the car, put the car together, etc...

Also big props to my friends for coming out this past Saturday....

If you ever catch me out, I can fill you in on my derby details...and your probably thinking..."will he ever do this again?"....It will be a long time from now, but who knows....
