Well…. After spending about a months worth of wages (literally) and spending the weekend in Covington, KY – I’m back in town. It was a weekend that I was really looked forward to. It’s been a rough couple weeks or so – seems like ever since graduation everything has been going downhill. I was ready to get out of this area, get drunk and hang out with a couple of my favorite bands.
Last night the Shinedown, Black Stone Cherry, Theory of a Deadman tour was at the Madison Theater in Covington. Theory of a Deadman wasn’t there though, because apparently they got held up at the US/Canada border? gay. That part didn’t bother me too much since I wasn’t really there for them anyway, but it did piss off a lot of other folks who came just to see them. No refunds were offered for those fans either.
The Madison Theater is by far the worst venue I have ever seen a show at – and I’ve been to my fair share of venues. I left about halfway through Shinedown’s set if that tells you how horrible this place is. I literally could not see the stage at all – I could sort of see the very top of the stage lighting. Shinedown sounded killer, but couldn’t tell you what they looked like.
I addressed my concern with pretty much every employee at the place haha and repeatedly talked to the owner who kept blowing me off. I eventually called 911 – twice actually – tryingto get the fire marshal there. The venue only had 2 other exits aside form the front door – no way were they under their capacity.
Nothing ever came about though –I ended up leaving a feew songs into Shinedowns set and just hanging out behind the venue with Black Stone Cherry. I could write an essay about how horrible this venue is and the cunt that owns it… but I’ll cut er’ off.
Don’t ever waste your gas, hotel, beer and ticket money on anything that is at the Madison Theater in Covington, KY!
Shinedown in KY...
So, earlier today I finally got the chance to confront Shinedown with some of the questions I’ve wanted to ask them since all the crap went down last month. It went very well surprisingly and it brought some answers too me. If you want to check it then head on over to the podcast section and give er’ a listen. By the way the new “The Sound of Madness” CD is off the hook. I’m not a big fan of Devour, but the rest of that CD is killer! Pick it up – for real.
Like I said before the Shinedown guys will be down in Covington, KY at the Madison Theater on July 13th. Black Stone Cherry and Theory of a Deadman are the openers so it’s going to be a fun evening. If you’re interesting in making the trip you can pick up your tickets through ticketmaster.com or madisontheater.com.
It’s going to be a busy week here in Huntington also. We’ve got Pop Evil in town tonight at Club Echo and then Hatebreed will rock Fluid on Thursday evening. Pop Evil will be here in the studio in about 20 mintues and should be performing an acoustic tune so have a listen! I haven’t heard anything from the guys aside from the “Hero” single, but I dig that one quite a bit – Should be a fun night and it’s a cheap ticket so come on down!
I’m going to go check out the Pop Evil performance… so this is all for this round…
PS: We just got a new X1063 set of corn hole boards – be on the lookout to come challenge us at remotes =)
Once again I’ve been slacking…. But I’m back! I don’t have internet at my house currently because the local company down there in Kentucky never shows up when they’re supposed to come fix it. So the limited internet means limited blogging. If you know me even just a little bit, you know that about 80% of my life revolves around the internet --- so it’s been rough! Haha
Lately I've really been putting a lot of effort into this upcoming documentary that I'm doing on the Westboro Baptist Church down in Kansas. I've dealt with them a lot since high school, but this time I really want to try and dig a little deeper. Everything really got kicked into gear yesterday. I spent over an hour and a half straight on the telephone with good ol' Shirley Phelps-Roper, which is the chic you've heard in a lot of my other interviews with them if you've heard any of em'. I also talked her into letting me talk to her 22 year old daughter Megan. Megan really put stuff on a much better level -- it still didn't justify all the BS they do, but it wasn't all this scripture and screaming that Shirley normally feeds interviewers. Although, this time I was able to keep Shirley on a somewhat reasonable noise level. She only screamed at me a couple times throughout the long interview lol. The documentary should be finished around July 15th -- hopefully a little bit before. I shall keep you updated...
This Tuesday the new Shinedown CD comes out and they posted the entire CD on their MySpace as a little premier. I fought myself about it, but eventually talked myself into listening to some of the songs. It disappoints me in a weird way – the songs I listened to were badass!! It sucks that this could potentially be the biggest CD the guys have had and Jasin won’t get any credit for it. It happens a lot with bands these days – some dude records the guitar parts in the studio, and then you get another guy who is the touring guitarist playing on the road. So I guess it’s not really that big of a deal, but hopefully the new guys can hold their own and now just be the Shinedown tribute/cover band that we saw at Rock on the Range. Ohh yeah – tomorrow night (Saturday) at 10pm listen to the X for a sneak peak at the new “Sound of Madness” CD.
This next run of the Shinedown tour is going to be pretty rad (at least for me!) and it kicks off in Covington, KY July 13th. They’re hitting the road for a few weeks with Black Stone Cherry and Theory of a Deadman. Tickets are $25 for the Covington show and you can get em’ on Ticketmaster. This Tuesday I’m going to chat with one of the Shinedown dudes on the phone about the new CD, the tour and try to get them to crack a little on these member changes. It’ll be in the podcast section on Tuesday evening if ya want to have a listen.
Early today I found out that Remedies in Huntington has closed their doors. It kinda caught be off guard – hell I was just in there Wednesday. According to the bulletin they posted today it appears it caught even the employees off guard. I was really looking forward to the annual wet and wild parties that they do each summer. The bar was sold too someone, so hopefully that person will keep the rockin’ atmosphere, wild Remedies traditions and parties going. It’ll be super disappointing if the bar gets turned in to yet another bootay shakin’ hang out…
Tomorrow Wings & Wheels is going to be happening down at Harris Riverfront Park. IT looks like the weather is going to hold up so it should be a good time. I’ll be down there broadcasting live from noon-2pm and I’ll probably hang out a little bit after that. There’s a lot going on – live music, buncha food, plenty of goodies for the kids, ect. It’s free to get in so come hang out! Some folks need help loading up some of the Wings & Wheels stuff right now… so I’m ending it here and going to help them!
